Opening with Louey's Lament , local lads The Red Cents establish their rollicking roots rock with some much appreciated jangly fuzz, based around a sweet slide solo. Mercy me (I need you now) is a more melancholic affair, traveling through staple folk guitar progressions, the decidedly somber mood defined by Earl Leonard's warbling vocals. "For as long as you like" trades the folk aesthetic to become more of a bluesy, gospel-tinged ballad, whilst the bygone way highlights the flawed yet endearing musicianship on display here.
