News: The revolution continues... but the Red Cents are calling it a night. After two-and-a-half great years of rollicking good times, your favourite band are gonna pursue individual crooked lines for a while. Jamie the Phrog's heading off to Ireland to finish his anthropology PhD, and the rest of us decided we'll never find another drummer like him. (For those of you who are feeling really sad at the moment, the four of us we're in a band called Night On Earth about six years ago that lasted a couple of years before we broke up while everyone went travelling, so there's still a chance we'll get back together again in the future, but maybe under a different name. And of course, I'll still play Red Cents songs at my solo gigs!) Thanks heaps to all the bands we've played with (see below) and venues we've played at (particularly the Karova Lounge and the Old Bar), and to the people who've come to see us, especially the regulars of the ex-X-mansion, and Brad, Sonia, Ro, Zeb, Cas and extra-specially, Wes (who helped us out heaps over the years). We've got two final gigs (one in Melbourne, one in Ballarat) so come along and we'll entertain you one last time. And one last thing, since we're almost out of copies of our For As Long As You Like EP, I've put the entire disk on the net at a digital store. So anyone who didn't get a copy, particularly those of you who cant make one of the final shows to snatch up one of the few remaining ones, can buy copies of those songs here:
Links: www.myspace.com/theredcents is still the best place to leave messages for me and to discuss Red Cents happenings in general. And go to: www.triplejunearthed.com/theredcents to find a live version of fan favourite `Nullarbor', the stomping end of the world groove of `Ragnarok' (off our `For As Long As You Like EP) and an old number from back in the Dave & Earl duo days, `Lazy Sister Sue', just as a treat for the long term fans. So, let the triple j listeners know how much you'll miss the Red Cents! There're a few more random
MP3s at www.mp3.com.au/theredcents
too. Other Facts: Go here for the true history of the Red Cents. Acts we've played with: The Underminers, The Vasco Era, Amaya Laucirica, Downhill’s Home, The Jayco Brothers, CWQ, Khancoban, Silver City Highway, Black Pony Express, Clinkerfield, James McCann & The Dirty Skirts, Ryan Sterling & Shane French, Secunda, Van & Cal, Hotel Diablo, Sal & Tully, Project 321 Explosion, Honeymaker, Carus and the True Believers, The Nightmares, The Woulds, Cliffy Davis Good Time Band, Registered Nurse, Spencer P. A Select Few Special Events of this year: Every show we did. Particularly, the April/May Residency at Old Bar. Every Wednesday in April and the first Wednesday in May, we knocked knocking out the tunes. Played at least one song each night that we didn't play on any other night, and played at least one other song per night in a different way than we played it on the other nights. How Dylanesque of us. Yes, we thought so. And the last: 15th April 2006, Andy Isaac of the Hungryzine crew chooses to
celebrate his 25th birthday at The Old Bar with the Red Cents.
We salute you mate! 20th January 2006, Earl decides that the
Commercial Hotel is the perfect place for one last gig before getting
married. As a parting gift Jimmy Clinkerfield (the booker) gives him an extra pack of
Cashews. And the year before: June 15, 2005. EP/Demo For as Long as You
Like reviewed in Beat Magazine.
June 13, 2005. The Red Cents
